The Implementation Gap We have the technology to decarbonize our homes. We have the policy to fund it. What we lack is the translation.
For the past 15 years, I have worked at the intersection of environmental science and construction reality. My mission with Applied Build Science is to close the “Implementation Gap”—the specific friction point where well-intentioned policy meets the hard reality of a 1950s main panel.
From the Crawlspace to the Boardroom My journey began in the classrooms of UNC Asheville, studying environmental science under Dr. Rick Maas. He taught me that sustainability isn’t just about the science; it’s about the execution.
I took that lesson to the field, starting my career as a BPI-certified Energy Auditor with Home Energy Partners. I didn’t just model building envelopes; I crawled through them. I learned the physics of heat loss and the mechanics of retrofits by doing the work myself.
Later, as the Technical Program Lead & Operations Manager at Beyond Green Design Build in the San Francisco Bay Area, I scaled this philosophy. I managed complex electrification retrofits—installing heat pumps, navigating Title 24 compliance, and leveraging TECH Clean California incentives to drive adoption.
The Mission Today I focus on the operational side of decarbonization. I help programs, contractors, and stakeholders understand that Applied Building Science is the key to market transformation. It is not just about changing the equipment; it is about changing the workflow.
